Marty said he really wanted to have a Salade Nicoise in Nice, in fact in the Cours Saleya in the heart of the vieux ville (old town) where we had done that many years ago. There's such a vibrant Nicoise energy in that part of town. Cours Saleya is the principle walking street of Nice, with the famous Marche des Fleurs (flower market) every day, and the food market on certain days, as well as many restaurants and cafes all along the perimeter.
So off we went on the Basse Corniche, passing the big cruise ships in the bay, and it only took about 15 minutes to get to Nice...our apartment is so well located.
We found a parking spot right on the street near the Saleya, and walked over. We found the same restaurant-cafe that we had eaten in all those many years ago. It's in a great spot for people-watching too. We spent an hour or so there, relaxing, people-watching, and having a leisurely lunch.
We also noticed For Sale signs around town that were written in Russian, another indication that they are buying up lots of real estate outside their country.
Then we drove back home to get Jill'a iPad, and then off to Apple in totally the opposite direction...we have nothing but time. The Apple store is in a huge shopping mall called CAP 3000 just outside Nice and past the airport. It's not quite as big as our Westchester Mall back home, but it does have all the designer shops, with the anchor store being Galleries Lafayette, France's biggest department store chain, and very upscale. Everyone knows about CAP 3000...it's quite a mecca all around the Cote d'Azur. We were there in 20 minutes, including a few wrong turns.
The Apple Store is on the second level of the Mall, and we met with John who spoke fluent English. He gave us some good advice about backup and maintenance, but in the end he couldn't help Jill's email problem nor our Blog photo problem, as those see, to be Earthlink and Google problems. While we were in the Mall, we took advantage and just browsed around some of the fancy stores, like Chaumet (fine jewelry) and Lancel (one of Jill's all-time favorite leather goods stores...she came close to buying a gorgeous red leather handbag but it would be too heavy for her back problem...lucky for Marty, right?!). Marty looked at some watch stores, his little obsession, as well as a few sporting goods and clothing stores. Hey, you only live once, and this is FRANCE and CAP 3000, for God sakes.
By now it was after 7pm and we started to think about dinner. We tried to get into a nice fish restaurant in the old port of Nice, but it was fully booked, so we headed home to a cute little Beaulieu restaurant that has the best thin crust pizza baked on a wood burning fire...tellement bonne!...so good! We topped that off with their special dessert of a frozen soufflé with Grand Marnier...tellement bonne, aussi!
And so to bed at a relatively early hour tonight...we're both so tired from our hectic non-stop sightseeing days, and we're going to try to get an earlier start tomorrow.
Bonne nuit a tutti!
