DAY 43 - FRI 4/12 -GoodThingsMustEnd

We're really taking it easy today, having gone pretty much full blast for the last 6 weeks here in Paris. By the time we were ready to get up and go, it was mid-day. Jill had read about another ancient train station that had been beautifully restored into a "super hip" classic French restaurant in the Passy area in the 16th arrondissement near where we used to live. It's called La Gare, meaning The Train Station.

It has a cafe/bar on the main floor, with a lovely outdoor terrace for dining 'en plein air' when the weather cooperates.

Downstairs is an immense dining room brilliantly designed with plasma screens and private dining for a party of 8 situated in a red round screen for privacy.

Note the red draped area for private parties...how cool!

The scene is amazing, and one can only imagine what it's like when it's packed with 'Le Tout Paris.'

We had a perfect light lunch of salmon tartar garnished with pesto, and a lovely triple-decker chicken sandwich which bore no resemblance to sandwiches of a similar name "aux States". All very chic and sophisticated!

Then we just felt like going back to the Etienne Marcel area near Rue Montorgeuil and Les Halles, walking around to see some fun shops again...and couldn't resist picking up a few more scarfs at our favorite vintage store. We then ended up at one of our favorite cafes, Cafe Etienne Marcel, the place where we had met Diariata, the fashion model. We sat there for over an hour sharing a half bottle of Perrier for about $8, watching the beautiful people, and seeing them scatter when a huge hail storm kicked up...the weather has been dreadful, but what can you do. It's PARIS, for Gods sakes. We suck it up and love it.

It was getting late and we had a reservation at La Galoise on Avenue La Motte-Piquet, not too far from our apartment. So we took the Metro part of the way and walked part of the way. It's in a lovely upscale residential area. The restaurant is very romantic and with very good traditional French food...not a tasting menu. We had a delicious dinner of endive with a Roquefort dressing, followed by chateaubriand in a pepper sauce, topped off by a Grand Marnier soufflé, and of course some lovely red wine.

On our way home we pass some cafes still going strong.  It was a perfect last evening in our beloved Paree!

Tomorrow we fly to Nice and go to our next apartment in Beaulieu-sur-Mer. We can't believe the past 6 weeks are already over...it just flew by...and good things must come to an end.

Maybe our next visit will be with our growing family.

Au Revoir Paris!  A bientot...
