DAY 10 - SUN 3/10 - More Markets

Today is Sunday so it's a good day to go to markets since all the stores are closed, and the museums are too crowded. As for the weather, it's cold and damp and cloudy and stayed that way all day.

We decided to go back to the Porte de Vanves Flea Market because yesterday we had gotten there just as the vendors were packing up for the day (although that is the best time to get bargains).

As we were about to leave the market today we came upon two women, one of whom was taking pictures, and Marty started talking to her about her camera. Kimberly was studying photography and was here for vacation with her friend Iris, both from Dallas, and she is doing a blog with photographs of her travels. That interested us, of course, and so we chatted about that. Then Kimberly wanted to buy a piece of art, which she showed us. We told her that we thought the price was too high and we actually helped her bargain with the guy (actually Marty did her bargaining), and she ended up with a better price. She thought she got a good deal, and was very appreciative of our help.

Kimberly and Iris also told us of another arts and crafts market that was open all afternoon today on Blvd. Edgar Quinet in Montparnasse. It got very raw and cold later in the day, but we bundled up and walked there from our apartment. It was a very nice, upscale market, with no bric-a-brac, but only painters, sculptors, and craftspeople looking for recognition and selling their wares. We liked a few things but didn't buy anything on the spot. We may go back to the atelier of one artist at another time to look at her work again and see if we want to buy something.

On the way home we stumbled upon a church behind Bon Marche where people were milling around, so we went in. There were many nuns sitting in the pews, quietly praying. We decided not to wait for the service and left to go and hunt down a restaurant for tonight, if we don't fall asleep first. Et bien voila...no sooner did we get home than Marty goes out for the count. I finally wake him up, but neither of us has the energy to go out again. Luckily we have some yummy leftovers from the Epicerie from the other night, so that was perfect for tonight.

Good night. Tomorrow is Jill's birthday.
